1.2.345. In the early 2000s, if you said those numbers exactly like that, then you could get almost anyone to start singing Lou Bega. He may have had only one hit, but “Mambo No. 5” was, and is a very memorable song, at least for all us 90s kid.
His live shows are, not surprisingly, just as energetic and fun as his songs are. His stage is so full of people, which produce a great big sound. He has a full band, complete with horn players, drummers…basically a Ricky Ricardo band minus Ricky Ricardo. He also has about 6 or 7 fly girls dancing around for pretty much all of his songs as well, not to mention the band is having such a great time that they are dancing around while playing. Lou Bega took the show wearing his infamous off white suit and Cuban hat, looking like he came straight out of Havana.
I have to admit that I knew none of his songs except for his closing “Mambo No. 5” of which, I knew ALL of the words to. I later on found out the names of some of the songs that I could remember, which included “I Got A Girl,” “Tricky Tricky” and “Mambo Mambo.” But honestly, my lack of knowledge is what made the show that much better, because his music is something to move to, no matter if you know the words or not.
