The story of Fenech-Soler is one that’s extremely dramatic for all the wrong reasons. While other bands might have histories involving troubled album creations or bizarre forming circumstances, Fenech-Soler have literally danced with death itself in their tenure making music.
Not at the beginning however, the bands origin could literally belong to anyone. Daniel Fenech-Soler (bass and vocals) and Ross Duffy (guitar) were friends at school and started their first band at the age of twelve.
A couple of years after that Ross’s brother Ben joined on vocals and keys and Andrew Lindsay completed the line up on the drums after the band had completed their first recordings. By 2009 “Lies” had been released as their first single on the Kitsune, the same place that Two Door Cinema Club, La Roux and Bloc Party released their early singles.
With the 2010 release of their self-titled debut, the world seemed at their feet, but tragedy would soon strike. Ben Duffy was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011, causing all activity concerning the band to come to a screeching halt.
Thankfully enough, the cancer was diagnosed in its early stages, Duffy was in remission after two months and he made a complete recovery just in time for that year’s summer festival season. Being the absolute dudes that they are, the band donated all proceeds from their single “Stop And Stare” to the Teenage Cancer Trust as a result.
Since then the band have been unstoppable, supporting Paramore at the 2013 iTunes festival, Example at the Royal Albert Hall, and headlining a show at London’s prestigious Shepherd’s Bush Empire. This band have been through a lot to get where they are today, and things are only going to get more exciting with time. Highly recommended.

Penned by NME as having songs full of “fizzy electro squizzles”, Fenech-Soler are a perfect synth pop band. The Northamptonshire four-piece released their self-titled debut album in 2010 and since then have overcome personal health problems and cancelled tours to have two further successful albums. Ross Duffy, Ben Duffy, Daniel Fenech-Soler and Andrew Lindsay are the band and they create an ideal summer dance sound. You can just imagine turning them up in your car, windows down, as the sun beats through the sunroof.
Live on stage Fenech-Soler showcase an energetic front man (Ben) clutching the mic and rilling the fans into a clapping frenzy. A popular opener is Rituals #2 which is a short, happy lead in to Last Forever; a joyous wishful track. It sings “ We can waste time together” accompanied by rhythmic bass and progressive beats. Filling out venues of 6oo+ guests, the band have been touring the UK and the States to great reception. A backdrop of blue light strips flash around the stage and purple strobes blink at expectant fans. ‘Demons’ and its arpeggio guitar has us fans pumping the air, breathlessly jumping and dancing. ‘Magnetic’ - a single from their third album - brings the gig to a climax. Think Friendly Fires esque catchy vocals and ‘ah ah ahhs’ and you’ve got Fenech-Soler. If you like Two Door Cinema Club or Clock Opera and can’t resist a summer sound, get yourself down to a Fenech-Soler gig (even if it’s winter!).
One the best gigs ever. And I even don't know the band. I was invited by a friend and he bought the ticket for me. Also I wold like to point that the opening acts were amazing as well. The only thing negative about this gig was the fact they have just one bar for the entire venue. The queue to get a drink was long and slow.
Awesome! Nice, small crowd, intimate concert at Dada Dallas. The members of Fenech-soler were not prepared for the Texas heat, their performance was still top notch.I plan on attending Fenech-soler concerts in the future.Highly recommended, great vibes!
