Biografía
Prior to making forays into the hip-hop world, Stefon Alexander spent much of his childhood years immersed in punk. Initially a drummer in the punk-rock group Cadillac Blindside, the multi-instrumentalist subsequently became the singer and guitarist for the Building Better Bombs, before discovering rap acts Company Flow and Oddjobs. With this discovery, Alexander began rapping in his spare time and performing in Minneapolis’ various open spaces, venues and bars. In 2001, alongside rapper Syst and DJ Anomaly, he formed the rap group Cenospecies and released one album with the group “Indefinition” in 2002. Dubbed the best band to break up in 2002 by the publication City Pages, Alexander went on to found the hip-hop collective Doomtree.
The rapper’s debut full-length, “Ipecac Neat”, was released in 2004, and rereleased by Rhymester Entertainment who subsequently signed the versatile performer. Raising his profile on a national stage, P.O.S.’s sophomore album “Audition” was released by Doomtree and Rhymesayers Entertainment in January 2006. Following the release, Alexander released the album “Freak Out Squares” with the punk band Building Better Bombs in 2007.
Complete with political angst and a clean, well-versed flow which he has become known, the rapper’s third solo album “Never Better”, was his first album to appear on the Billboard 200. P.O.S. subsequently joined the hip-hop infused indie-rock supergroup “Gayngs”, alongside Bon Iver and Solid Gold, and released the critical acclaimed album “Relayted” in 2010. Two years later the rapper released his fourth solo album “We Don’t Even Live Here”, which charted at No. 47 on the Billboard 200, followed by “WDELH/MDS/RMX” in October 2013.

Stefon Alexander is definitely a busy and well-connected muscian. His CV includes, working with indie hip hop collective Doomtree, of which he was a founding member; writing new material with Indie supergroup Gayngs alongside Justin Vernon and The Rosebuds, and starting a hardcore punk band called Wharf Rats with members of Black Flag and Gallows. Despite this heavy workload, he still manages to make time for his original project, under the moniker P.O.S.. The underground hip-hop artist has five studio albums under his belt, and has rocked big festivals such as Coachella.
The Midwestern rapper, who borrows mixes elements of skate-punk rock with his politically charged lyricism certainly knows how to put on a show. But this isn’t your typical modern day rap show; instead you’ll find just turntables, playing guitar heavy beats, and rapid distorted vocals angrily delivered by the MC.
It would be hard for him not to play songs such as the incredibly uplifting “Purexed” and “Let It Rattle” without the crowd going wild, the choruses are so infectious it’s hard not to join in with P.O.S as he smoothly runs through a cherry picked back catalogue that also includes like of “How We Land”, a collaboration Bon Iver.
While he hasn’t performed live for a long time due to health issues, his first ever US national tour was cancelled after Alexander had to go under emergency kidney replacement surgery, we can only hope that P.O.S. will grace the UK with his brash yet emotionally touching brand of Hip-Hop soon!
This may be my favorite show I've ever been to (my former favorite was another P.O.S show so he only has to top himself in my book). P.O.S was on fire, rapping with heart and soul. He didn't do the expected almost all songs from the new record with a couple of hits sprinkled in at the end thing. It felt like the playlist was made up of what he was wanting to talk about right now than going through the motions that way. His banter with the audience was also witty and organic. It is unusual to feel like you got a show just for your audience and not a routine that every other city is going to get night after night. It meant a lot to me to watch an artist who cares so much about his music and his fans who listen to what he has to say about his life and the world we all live in. Ceschi was the opener and also was awesome as hell. So much passion that night. I miss it already.
Oh man where do we start?! This was my 10yr old sons first concert. I was kinda disappointed that the crowd small maybe 50 people? I really hope this doesn't detour anyone else from rhymesayers entertainment from coming around. Having the small intimate crowd P.O.S. got off stage for his whole set and stood in the middle of the crowd. Such a memorable performance THANK YOU again Steph!!!! My son even snagged a selfie with him he is still soooo pumped!!! This show set the bar so high for anything else my son gets to see. I would say this was the best concert experience I've ever had as well and I've been to numerous concerts :) So glad i could share it with my boy.
First time I've ever seen him live. Incredible show, easily one of the best shows I've ever been to. He did most the show from the middle of the crowd. Very charismatic performer. It was an awesome party. The openers were great too. I had a smoke with the guys from Transit22 after their set, very friendly and cool guys. All around great time.
