Mattafix performed their single "Big City Life" in a small, intimate venue for a studio and televised audience. Their music is made with a mixture of live instrumentation and computerized audio, an dis characterized by smooth jazz-like bass rhythms and a smooth hip hop/R&B vocalist, with hints of reggae influence. The singer does well at touring the stage, visiting the various sections of the crowd and interacting with members of the audience. The whole band moves and "gets into" the music, giving the audience the fell that they're watching a band that loves what they do. When the band members join for vocals, they sing with purpose and power, without overwhelming the harmonies. They performed on a large stage with various multi-colored gel stage lights creating a dark and muted atmosphere, further helped by large objects and wall carvings which cast natural shadows on the band. They were aided by automated spotlight operators who flawlessly trailed from member to member, giving highlights at all the right parts of the song. When the beat slowed down, the lights coalesced on the singer, who sang a slow soliloquy to the audience during the breakdown. The crowd lights dimmed and moved forward, casting the audience in a very natural shadow which matched the change in the song's rhythm.
