One of chamber music’s most exciting young supergroups returns to Weill Recital Hall. In a rave review of their Carnegie Hall debut, New York Magazine described these “three stupendous musicians” as “aptly named [for thriving at] the point where cultures meet, eras overlap, sensibilities intersect, and traditions fork”—in other words, where “the most vibrant music so often takes place.” True to form, this evening’s concert pairs music by modern visionaries—Andrew Norman and Caroline Shaw—with all-time-great piano trios by Ravel and Robert Schumann. Norman’s work is a New York premiere, while Shaw’s First Essay, “Nimrod,” is an acclaimed “eight-minute funhouse” (NPR) being heard for the first time in a new arrangement by Nathan Schram of the Attacca Quartet.
