Breaking into the mainstream charts with the hit “Stuck” in 2003, Stacie Orrico transitioned from Contemporary Christian music into R&B infused pop, achieving her worldwide success. Absorbed in music from an early age and writing her first song aged 6, Orrico spent much of her childhood singing in church choirs and family whilst being surrounded by several genres thus being inspired some of the greats: Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Lauryn Hill and Whitney Houston. These influences fed into her incredible soulful vocal ability which when performing is effortless in any genre capacity. Her self-titled pop album perfectly balanced her musical transition whilst making it relevant and current featuring tracks like “There’s Gotta Be (More To Life)” and “I Could Be The One”. The overly pop qualities of the album, make for an energetic live show as Orrico utilises backing dancers and she joins the formation, full of life and energy, accompanied by a full band. The follow up album “Beautiful Awakening” released in 2006 revealed a more mature sound and themes from Orrico steering more towards soul and R&B. With tracks such as “I’m Not Missing You” and “Easy To Luv You” Orrico adopts the piano into her live shows as the mood slows down and she pours out every possible sentiment leaving the audience with goose bumps as her incredible vocals seep into their hearts, almost moving them to tears.
What is astonishing about Orrico, is that her voice is pitch perfect as she ad libs with falsetto runs that are so effortless and incredibly enchanting. With natural talent in abundance and an impressive repertoire, Orrico is a pure delight to watch from start to finish.
