Hart Plaza is a 14-acre park in downtown Detroit and is part of the Detroit International Riverfront. It was opened in 1975 and named for Senator Philip A. Hart, a Democrat from Michigan. The park hosts a large open-air amphitheater, an ice rink, a cruise ship dock and several famous sculptures such as Isamu Noguchi's "Pylon" and "Hoarce E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain" and David Barr and Sergio DeGiusti's "Michigan Labor Legacy Landmark". Hart Plaza is located approximately at the location where Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac landed in 1701 and founded Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit, the settlement that went on to become the City of Detroit.
