Before this her musical career began with a couple of EPs released in 2013 which gained her some notoreity. She took several writing trips around the US to New York and Los Angeles before settling on Nashville at the age of 19.
'All About That Bass' was released the following year in June and went on to become a huge sucess. It topped the US Billboard chart and stayed there for eight weeks, a hugely admirable accomplishment for a new artist. It also topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Germany and New Zealand. In the UK it topped the singles chart and remained there for four weeks making Trainor the most successful female artist of 2014.
The EP 'Title' followed in September which 'All About That Bass' was lifted from. It charted at #15 and #17 in the US and Canada respectively. Her album will also be called 'Title' and is set for release in January 2015, Meghan has released one preceding single so far. 'Lips Are Moving' was also a success in the US, entering the Billboard chart at #8 and the Australian singles chart at #3. To add to her commercial successes in 2014, Trainor has also scooped two Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Record of the Year for 'All About That Bass'.
Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, both students at a music school in Stockholm, met at a party in 2009, deciding to collaborate musically, four weeks later performing for their first time together. Icona Pop had their first success with their single, "Manners" which had an effortlessly cool charm, brought to a wider audience after being sampled by Hip Hop act Chiddy Bang in 2011 in their song "Mind Your Manners."
Following a number of festival appearances in Europe, Icona Pop released their self titled debut album in Sweden in 2012, with the single, "I Love It," featured on a number of soundtracks and adverts. It became a hit and led to the duo performing on a number of TV shows, including "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" and "Good Morning America." Their EP, "Iconic" was released in the US shortly after and reached number 21 on the US Itunes Dance Chart.
Their internationally released album, "This Is… Icona Pop," came out in 2013 to wide critical acclaim. For the album, they wanted to display their musical diversity, melding a diverse number of influences to create the album, proving that they are not just a one hit wonder after the success of "I Love It." It is predominantly synth-pop yet with the energy of punk but it also moves to electro reggae with the track "Light Me Up" making for a diverse, exciting listen.
Their talents have been rewarded with two Teen Choice awards, for Choice Music Breakout Group and Choice Single.
A relative newcomer to the circuit, 21 year old pop starlet Meghan Trainor has been in practice for her live debut since the age of 6 when she began singing. Having developed a melodic tone and wonderful range, she has a great opportunity to showcase her talents following the international success of her debut album 'Title'.
The music was hailed for its retro, 1920s influence and these transfer to Meghan's performance. Appearing in numerous outfits, she really does transport you back to the traditional sounds of the 20s and 30s. From the upbeat 'Dear Future Husband' the crowd are ready to sing, dance and clap along with the pop star. She instantly builds a connection with the crowds and takes what she learned on her rise to the larger stages.
Accompanied by slick backing musicians and singers, Trainor commands the stage as she walks from side to side recreating 'Title'. Ending the first set with 'Lips Are Moving', there is a huge emphasis on fun as the crowd sings along once again. Everybody knows the encore has been reserved for the international hit 'All About That Bass', it sounds perfect live and the audience leaves with the impression Meghan Trainor is an artist very much destined for stardom.
This is pop for the new generation. I'd even go so far as to call them to Pussycat Dolls of the new decade.
You're probably familiar with how most girl groups these days rely on twerking or other rauchy dance moves and songs to garner attention from their audiences, but not Icona Pop. Europop has always been a favorite of mine, with upbeat tunes, catchy beats, and uplifting vocals that are full of energy and spirit, and Icona Pop has delivered on all fronts for me.
Caroline and Aino are both absolutely amazing live - Caroline is a brighter voice whereas Aino has a bit more depth, but when combined, you get the perfect combination like marshmallows and hot chocolate. The lightshow just hyped up the crowd even more, combined with the techno-esque elements on their songs, soon enough the entire crowd was jumping, bumping, and having a great time.
They have a song for everyone, from the emotional Girlfriend to the super popular I Love It and the energy-filled All Night.
The only thing that I would say was a bit of a downer was that the concert area was packed with mostly teenagers, so it can get a little pushy at times.
