From Indian Lakes is an indie rock outfit from Yosemite National Park in California. Growing up near one of the most beautiful areas in the world had quite an effect on their music as founder Joey Vannucchi grew up without all those common childhood luxuries such as electricity, so he spent most of his time playing drums or reading books, learning new instruments and being quite the adventurer.
Tonight they perform music from their most recent release, “Absent Sounds” which has gained worthy critical acclaim over the time. Their sound features the ambience of synthesizer pads as they launch into “Come in This Light”, one of the first works that was released to the public. When they perform it live, they feature a certain ambience in their music that captivated the audience, and then suddenly launch into complex beats, which are washed with the reverb doused vocals of Vannucchi. Seeing this band is such an experience, and would absolutely recommend them to a friend. They finish on the song “Label this Love”.
From Indian Lakes were opening at the show i saw, so their set list was short, but it was unbelievable. The best word to really describe them on stage and music-wise is "chill" and they even admitted that. But that's not to say their set wasn't diverse. There were quiet moments that felt ever serene, and there were loud moments that caused you to instinctively jump. For me they played stuff off their latest album and something new from their upcoming. They were fantastic as an opener, but i felt like their set was way too short. Definitely see these guys as a headliner because they have a bigger catalog than opening can let on.
