KOKO is a grand Grade II listed building located at the bottom of Camden High Street, and was formerly known as the Camden Palace until 2004. The venue features mostly 18+ live music events and plays host to Club NME on Friday nights. It is considered by many as one of London's most beautiful music venues, with an elaborate interior decorated in rich reds, with impressive tiered balconies. The site was opened on Boxing Day 1900, originally known as the Camden Theatre, it was one of the biggest theaters in North London. The venue lived through a variety of incarnations until it shut during World War Two. From 1945 the site was used by the BBC for the taping of several programmes until the BBC relocated in the 1970s. From then it became a music venue, hosting a range of notable acts. A refurbishment and re-branding in 2004 saw new sound equipment and decoration brought in.
