What can you say really about a band as prolific as Ozark Mountain Daredevils? Formed way back in 1971's, this Southern country rock band are a slice of American musical history and you should not miss the chance to see them live. Three founding members remain, and they appear to be having as much fun onstage pleasing fans as they did back in the day.
With so much beloved material to choose from, the band do a great job in picking set lists that satisfy all gig goers. From the banjo twangs of 1973 opener 'Standing On A Rock' the country pulses are sent through the crowds and the toes cannot resist tapping. The band have so much skill in their instruments, and despite the original line up not remaining fully intact, the group work together really well and they all seem to enjoy playing as a band. It's worth noting that this is a huge operation onstage with eight musicians working a variety of instruments including mandolin, horns and woodwind to name a few.
Runaway hit 'Jackie Blue' sounds as good today as it did in 1975 when it topped the US charts and fans sing in unison as the group conduct the county choir beautifully. The more solemn 'Beauty In The River' makes for a delightful encore before the whooping and cheering from crowds beckon the band to reappear with the jovial 'It'll Shine When It Shines'. You leave feeling like you've been at a hoedown. Ozark Mountain Daredevils are crazily energetic onstage and the passion they still have for their music is admirable, for a feel good show, they won't be beat.
