I’m a bit of a musical theatre fan, and after discovering several years ago that Murray Head was the voice behind Superstar from Jesus Christ Superstar, and One Night in Bangkok from Chess, I was compelled to check out his other music. The first tracks that I listened to were from the album When You’re In Love, and I was immediately converted into a huge fan.
When I heard that he was touring, I knew that I had to see him in concert, and it was totally worth the 2-hour drive! Head is an incredibly talented guitarist as well as a stellar rock singer, and watching his fingers dance across the fret boards creating beautiful music was simply magical. He played Say It Ain’t So Joe, and was supported by a cello and violin which sounded beautiful.
Although he’s been performing for many years now, his voice is still strong and powerful, and his new compositions are also fantastic creations. His sophisticated stage presence was captivating, and he held the huge auditorium in silence throughout every song. When he played Superstar he encouraged everyone to sing along, and people were even getting to their feet. He is an incredible performer and musician with so much talent. I highly recommend the show to anyone with an interest in his wonderful new wave sound.
