Although Ween never seemed to make it into the mainstream with their wild and wacky music, they garnered a large cult fan base with their catchy rock tunes mixed with their fun antics.
Like other musicians that adopted their band name as pseudonyms such as the Ramones, the main members of Ween also did the same thing. Dean Ween and Gene Ween have a great chemistry together that allows them to inspire each other to make interesting and experimental music. Ween has been known to mix various genres into their sound such as punk, country, funk, and psychedelic music. Gene Ween is the lead singer of the band and manipulates his voice in absurd ways to get interesting sounds. Ween has the ability to blast out heavy metal songs and then immediately start playing acoustic guitars while singing in a style similar to Simon and Garfunkel. The band also incorporates synthesizers into their music to occasionally emulate some psychedelic sounds.
Ween is highly energetic live. Gene Ween often runs around the stage with the microphone in his hand, bellowing his lyrics out to the audience. Dean Ween is moving all around stage and rocking out to his heavy guitar riffs. The band usually has their signature logo of a spiked hair boy displayed in the background. Their light show is also magnificent, conveying great displays of psychedelic lights. Although Ween is known to play some wild music like the psychedelic, rockabilly sounding “I’ll Be Your Jonny On The Spot”, they also play beautiful, intricate tunes such as “The Argus” that clearly conveys their talented musical abilities. Ween covers a great bit of their material during their performances and gives every ounce of energy they have in order to perform a phenomenal show.
Saw Ween in Montreal in 1999. Have to say one of the best live concerts I have ever seen. Simply amazing energy and dare I say musical virtuosity from the brothers ween and their smoking band. Played all their hits and then some, over 2 1/2 hours and literally refused to leave the stage when the club owners wanted to start their crappy Disco. In the end the plug was pulled on them but still they kept playing, absolute legends. Long Live Ween!
Ween isn't a live band: they are THE live band. If you haven't found this out by listening to their live albums, you'll find this out soon enough by seeing them perform. This is their natural habitat, freeing them to all the room to jam and joke that the band ever needed. I can't recommend them if you don't like their records, but if you do, they stand taller onstage than they ever did in your headphones.
I havent seen Gene and Dean for a LONG TIME! Since they had their troubles and solo time. This tour was amazing!!! They were able to show the kids that two old geezers could still rock n' roll!!! Artpark is an absolute OUTSTANDING VENUE! 10/10!!!!
It is definitely an experience. They play long shows and can pretty much play anything in their catalog at anytime. The band is super tight and can also spontaneously improvise. The demon god Boognish casts an approving gaze upon the spectacle.
It was one of the best shows ive seen. Outdoors sunny day played some tunes they usually dont play. It was like Christmas for me. Had my family and friends there to celebrate one of the best bands and thers tear it up live.
Ween was fucking Amazing Live! One of my favorite bands of all time. They put on a great show & their sound is really quality! I love Ween. Had a blast.
