Into The Valley.... And beyond!
The Robin2, Bilston Thurs 22nd June. The Chords serve up a tight set in support and belt out Maybe Tomorrow in finale. Anticipation rises amongst all the 50+ year olds as they start piling into an already busy floor and we are soon shoulder to shoulder, toe to heel. 21:00 - Peaceful Times melodically drifts across the room as Bruce & Jamie Watson, Mike Bailie and Bill Simpson enter the stage and the crowd noise starts to rise in appreciation. Enter Richard Jobson to a huge roar and the band kicks off with Animation. What an opening! The crowd starts to gel into one bouncing mass and the Mosh starts throbbing in earnest unison. Jobson dominates the stage with his mesmeric dance routine as he effortlessly belts out his anthems one after another....awesome! The energy of the Mosh and wider crowd spurs him on and we don't want the set to end. All the great tunes in one blistering, never to be forgotten night and of course a raucous delivery of THAT song....TV Stars! "Who do we want?" yells Jobson "ALBERT TATLOCK!!" we all cry out and the roof lifts again, and again...and again! What a night!!!
This was a really great night at the Bedford Corn Exchange. Quite uncanny really that the two bands featured were the Skids who were my favourite band at school and Spear of Destiny who were my favourite band at college and in my early 20s.
Spear of Destiny were brilliant and Kirk Brandon has definitely not lost it and his vocals were as good as ever. All the old favourites it was just a shame that their set Wasn't a bit longer but as the first band on I assume there were time constraints.
I saw the Skids in Norwich in January and they were just as impressive. Richard Jobson still has so much energy. All the old favourites, a bit of new stuff and a few lesser known tracks from the past. Not quite as good a set as at Norwich but very good all the same.
As a venue I thought it was excellent. First time there and I would go again.
Great venue and an awesome gig. This was my favourite band when I was at school and I remember having'Skids' scrawled all over my exercise books! They had a lot of energy and Richard Jobson seems to have looked after himself. The tracks from the new album were ok though I think they sound better listened to in the comfort of the home. Their old stuff was brilliant as expected with Saints Are Coming and Into the Valley going down particularly well. The expected finish with Albert Tatlock a fitting finale. Will definitely go to see them again if they play down this way.
Great gig Richard was on fire like a whirling dervish. Rest of the band were superb especially since 2 of them had done a set of Big Country prior. The banter in between songs was so funny. Leo Sayer watch out if you come to Dunfermline!!! Crowd were in good form which was to be expected in the hands home town. All the classics and newer stuff from the new best selling album Burning Cities.
Brighton
Totally brilliant gig- band really tight
Jobson enigmatic and what a dancer !
Albeit I wish all bands would keep their political views to themselves - this is entertainment - I dont want to hear their political views.
However it was great to have the Skids back - fantastic songs and a joy to hear them played with two guitars..............
and they are coming back Jan 2018!
And absolutely stunning gig last night the skirts were tight yeah raw and Richard Jobson is a stunning front man
The set was mixed with old classics and you played superbly and I loved seeing father and son Watson playing the same stage together
First time I’ve ever seen and just had a magical evening top top stuff !!!!!
Fantastic got onto the balcony area fabulous view Richard Jobson is always very engaging with the crowds played all the old classic Skids tunes got all the old rockers going great sound love academy you feel you up close & personal value for money good service from bar meet joe Elliott from def leopard all in all 10/10 paul
Great energy, Jobson is a fantastic stage presence and had the audience captivated the entire time. The band were very tight and fluid, nailed the tempo changes in "Of One Skin" - the guitarist did his best the channel Stuart Adamson's beautiful guitar lines. Overall it was definitely worth the money.
What a Fantastic concert @the Roundhouse, Camden. The place was absolutely rocking, I could have wrung my t-shirt out at the end. Just about getting my hearing back now, 24 hrs later !. Brilliant music, brilliant band, Jobson for President !
I really enjoyed this. I wasn't feeling in the mood and wasn't sure how many songs I would remember but the band played with energy with plenty of banter between songs. New and old songs all sounded good.
