Born on 8 August 1977 in Liverpool, England, Ambrosius met fellow Floetry member Natalie Stewart by bonding over their love for basketball while both attending the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. In 2000 the pair went to the United States to perform. While performing in Philadelphia the pair met Darren “Limitless” Henson, Keith “Keshon” Pelzer and began recording together. By 2002 they signed with DreamWorks Records and released their first album, entitled “Floetic.”
In early 2009 Ambrosius was approached with an offer to join Dr. Dre’s franchise, Aftermath Entertainment, as a solo musician/ producer/ and music writer among a number of other labels, ultimately signing with J Records. Her first debut album, “Late Nights And Early Mornings” was released on 1 March 2011. The first single off the album, “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)” peaked at Number 22 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. At the 2011 BET Awards she took away the Centric Award, and was nominated for the Best Female Artist R&B Artist in 2012. In 2011 she was also nominated for two Grammy Awards. Her second studio album, “Friends & Lovers” was released in 2014 and received two MOBO Award nominations.
Marsha Ambrosius is an amazing vocalist both on her records and live. Her range is incredible and she is just an all around talented singer. Her shows are always entertaining and she is able to involve the crowd in her music really well. I am a fan forever and would recommend her shows!
