Smoooooth, sexy and soulful it can only be the magnificent Brian Culbertson.
If any boy is bringing a girl home, trying to treat her right and show her goods then Brian needs to be in the background singing his heart out. 'You're my music,' is a metaphorical love song that always goes down smooth.
Not only is he a love doctor but also an unbelievable artist live. He gets through musical instruments quicker than singing girls boobs backstage. He rattles through all sorts of instruments from the trumpet to the synthesiser to the piano. A multi-talented man something which goes a miss nowadays.
There are few dates on his calendar for october and November so if you need to buy your mum a birthday present or early xmas present then be sure to search for his tickets. Your mum will thank you after she witnesses him live in full swing.
Marion Meadows is probably one of the coolest saxophonists I think I’ve ever seen perform. He walks out onto the stage so chilled out about the whole thing, soprano saxophone in hand, deadlocks flowing and his sunglasses on his face. The band launch into a fun jazz blues groove, and Meadows allows the band to get into the swing of everything before ripping right into the motif of the first song “Treasures”. He performs with such emotion, not giving the audience too much at first, taking them on a journey of twists and turns. The variations that he gradually introduces into this set are just so interesting too as he showcases some of his best techniques such as two octave glissandos and trills over three different modes in the space of about 8 bars. It’s wild and I’m aware of how geeky that last sentence just got. This formula that is so clearly tried and tested is what he endorses throughout his charismatic set, simply making people dance and feel good.
The South venue was a very nice intimate setting. I enjoyed Lindsey Webster and Gerald Veseley, and the rest of the band. She gave personal accounts of her songs, memories of her mother, and it was her birthday. It is exciting and refreshing to hear such a beautiful voice and songs. I would love to see her again.
