Sonny Landreth is one of the most influential blues guitarists today, who has his name up there with some of the greats of the music world such as Eric Clapton and BB King. He is extremely well known for his slide playing, which this audience tonight is fortunate enough to experience. It is with a slide that Landreth has developed such a distinct style that sets him apart from the rest, and has gained himself such a loyal following.
The biggest treat of this set is when he invites Clapton on stage with him for the song “Promise Land”, a fantastic guitar driven blues song that makes this audience dance from start to finish, singing along. He even gives the audience what they want in the form of a solo that endorses all of the slapping and popping right hand techniques that he has made such a name for himself for, closing the set with his song “Taylor’s Rock” which simply just turns into a little bit of a jamming session, giving each band member their moment in the limelight.
