Though Quadron’s headquarters are located in LA their origins lie in Copenhagen, Denmark. The duo consists of producer/songwriter Robin Braun and R&B vocalist Coco Malaika (better known as Coco O). Prior to the formation of Quadron, Braun acted in the groups Owusu & Hannibal, and Parallel Dance Ensemble, while Coco was enlisted as a back up vocalist for soul singer Karen. The two musicians crossed paths during their time in the music collective Boom Clap Bachelors and by the time 2009 rolled around they formed a music project over their own.
Quadron issued their self-titled debut in March 2010 through the label, Plug Research. The album was a modest commercial success, landing at no. 31 on the Denmark album charts. Though this release did not break into the US Charts it received widespread critical praise in the States, earning the “Best of What’s Next” from Paste Magazine and being cited as the 7th best album of the year by New York Magazine.
Proceeding this album the group released their “Quadron EP” in 2013 as well as their no. 8 charting single “Hey Love”. Their 2nd studio album “Avalanche” came out on 31 May 2013 through the labels, Vested in Culture and Epic. The album was a smash hit in their home country entering the charts a no.3. It also garnered prominent critical recognition in the United States and though it peaked at no.115 on the US Billboard 200 it did not meet the commercial trajectory expected. However this release, did very well on several other US album charts such as US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums where it debuted at no. 16 and the US Top Heatseekers Albums where hit the very top. “Avalanche” also brought in veteran professionals such as producers Fraser T Smith and Tricky Stewart as well as rising stars like Kendrick Lamar.
The hype surrounding Quadron’s slick and catchy “avant R&B” scored them collaborations with Leon Ware, the Internet, and Tyler, the Creator and also acted as a platform on, which both musicians ignited other projects. Coco was invited to participate alongside Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, and Gotye in the soundtrack for the “Great Gatsby” and Braun formed a critically lauded downtempo electro-soul duo called Rhye with Canadian musician Michael Milosh.
Everything about the performance that I saw from the artist Quadron was simply beautiful.
The beginning of the concert featured a lighting effect that made musical symbols in the background and different shapes before the electronic duo came out on the stage to play.
The singers had a bit of an accent being of Danish background but I still was able to understand the words that they were saying clearly. I was near the front and I thought they were very well dressed for being up on stage. The lights were constantly center stage on them and they was not a moment when I was not able to see the performance or hear the beautiful singing. Quadron played popular songs of theirs such as 'Slippin', 'Pressure', and 'Hey Love' which all sounded just as good live as they do on their different albums. Most of the songs that the band was playing were off of their newer album called Avalanche but they played the first two singles from their first self titled album as I mentioned above.
The electronic soul feel of their music put all of us in the crowd into like a trance state, I was not wanting to dance like a normal electronic show, I was more or less just wanting to enjoy the voice of the singer and the beats of the music.
