I know it’s difficult. I know that it’s a really, really big ask. However, you’re going to have to trust me on this, dear reader. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, let the pun in James Connolly’s DJ name put you off. The Night Slugs co-founder is so much better than his stage name suggests, in his work as a label boss, producer and especially his work as a DJ. He’s a polymath, through and through, creating an honest to goodness underground sensation with his labels co-founder Bok-Bok and, if he didn’t pioneer the genre of progressive club music, he’s almost certainly streets ahead of the pack. Perhaps that possibly means he could have picked a better name but I’m not sure it matters as much as I think it does. Anyway, the man’s still a dab hand with the decks. Creating elaborate soundscapes that can still utterly level any dance floor he’s put in the vicinity of, with a far deeper understanding of the peaks and troughs of a well-constructed set list, leading to better builds and drops than most brostep morons could even consider. What he’s had a leading hand in creating has gone worldwide as well, from his hometown of Brighton all the way to celebrated sets in Japan, America and mainland Europe. The name might be silly, but what he does is truly ground breaking, and any self-respecting club fan should see it as soon as possible. You’ll remember it forever!
Om Unit is a dark horse in this ever present world of house, electronic dance music. MK has taken over massively, shamefully and I must say appallingly, whereas the likes of Om Unit are still grinding out beats and mixes to die hard, dedicated fans.
Om Unit brings in new ideas and creations to his mixes. Sometimes I can hear cultural sounds mixed in which not many do. But Om performs to the masses all over the world. He brings with him a eye-exploding light show, ear-blasting beats and if you can see him behind the array of flashing lights and darkness, he is one cool mother.
He's done the Boiler Room sessions and a particular favourite set of mine to chill to is him live at Lx Factory in Lisbon. Both sets bare just straight up mixing live. Mixing stripped down to the back bone and Om is a fanatic in house music. Under-rated.
