David Binney Action Trio is a high-voltage jazz ensemble led by alto saxophonist David Binney, one of contemporary jazz's most prolific voices with over 30 albums as a leader and appearances on more than 400 recordings.
A fiercely independent artist, Binney has produced all of his own albums as well as numerous projects for others, including multiple releases by Donny McCaslin and work with Lost Tribe and Scott Colley. He founded Mythology Records in 1998 and was instrumental in forming the Donny McCaslin Group that would later become the band behind David Bowie’s Blackstar. Born in Miami, raised in Southern California, and long based in New York, Binney now lives in Los Angeles, continuing to perform, produce, mix and master recordings worldwide.
In the Action Trio, Binney is joined by Grammy Award-winning drummer and bandleader Louis Cole and bassist Pera Krstajic. Together, they forge a sound that is raw, precise, and expressive, blending high-velocity improvisation with intricate compositions and dramatic tempo shifts. The result is a sound that is both technically ferocious and emotionally resonant, making the trio one of the most electrifying live acts in modern jazz today.
