New York trio Rasputina are a complete curiosity to see onstage and their eccentric reputation and avant-garde appearance has drawn revellers from far and wide to hear their music. They have been working the circuit for close to twenty years and are still able to boast to being one of the only bands merging cello driven rock and folk with the fashion of the victorian era.
The three musicians take to the stage in full costume and huge grins upon their faces as they take in the smattering of applause from the audience. Eccentricity and character runs through the show and the lyrics of the music selected as they perform the folk ditties including 'Humankind, As the Sailor' and '1816, The Year Without a Summer'. It is all incredibly artistic and feels at times as though you are watching some well crafted piece of alt-theatre. For those who are fans of an immersive music experience and people who are taking the conventions of a live show to new places, I highly recommend Rasputina.
