American indie bands seem to be really hit or miss when it comes to live performances, but I was hopeful that The Churchills would be one of the better groups. It really just boils down to their level of comfort on stage, as indie rock music usually takes a bit of emotion and passion to feel genuine. If a group cannot show this properly then the whole thing ends up feeling weird. Turns out, this is definitely not a problem for this group, as their stage presence was pretty much second to none as far as I could tell. The venue I watched them at was pretty small, which seems to be the case for a lot of their shows, but it gives the whole thing a really intimate and personal feeling. They came on stage without much that stood out, pretty ordinary clothes and standard instruments. There was a bit of lighting excitement but nothing too fancy; I am not sure how much of that was because of limitations at the venue and how much was by their choice, but it did not really matter. The music sounded great and the whole audience was digging the laid back vibe, so it was a great atmosphere and a fun show all-around.
