The Synthony, Nause, and Adrian Lux

Despite having a name that runs perilously close - just one letter short, in fact - to one of the most unpleasant sensations possible for a human being to experience might be considered a risky move in some quarters, but it apparently hasn’t stopped Nause from being able to lay claim to the title of being one of the biggest underground successes in European house music over the past six years ago. Since they first came together in Stockholm, Sweden, Jacob Criborn and Leonard Scheja quickly became established in the house scene as they signed to Universal and began playing high-tempo and seriously energetic live sets both in their homeland and across the continent. Their experimental take on the genre is typical of their progressive house roots, so expect all manner of off-the-wall mashups and unexpected digressions when the pair take the stage, as well as a slew of their own hit singles, including ‘Hungry Hearts’ and last year’s successes ‘This Is the Song’ and ‘Head Over Heels’; their veritable gold mine of high-profile remixes to date will likely make an appearance, too.

My friends and I managed to get hold of some tickets to see the Swedish DJ in Birmingham this February. I don't usually enjoy DJ nights, the pushing, drink throwing, and sweating isn't really for me, but oh my goodness I didn't even notice any of this when we saw Adrian Lux. His set was absolutely incredible, and he stuck to what he's really good and passionate about, playing a full length progressive house set, and he rocked those decks all night. He played for a good couple of hours, and the atmosphere and energy were so high that no one seemed to stop dancing for the entirety of the set. The tracks were constructed flawlessly, merging from one to the next without any glitches.
The set was mainly the EDM charts, which is great because everyone was able to connect and jam along with the music. However it would've been cool if he'd thrown a few older tracks in there to mix it up a little, and everyone would have continued to dance along i'm sure! Despite that, I really can't fault the evening. The set up was great with Adrien's DJ booth on a platform off to the side with some epic lights, and even holograms adding to the performance. He's the kind of artist who could perform at a house party, or in an arena and get the crowd on his side, rooting for him.
