Over the years, the singer/songwriter phenomenon has been booming, and unfortunately most artists are going for the same style of music and therefore not achieving the success that they desire and possibly deserve. Jackie Green however, has taken an alternative approach to the style of his singer/songwriter music by creating organic and original blues and rock music. Watching him perform live is always exciting, and seeing a multi-instrumentalist play guitar, harmonica, and sing throughout the same song is simply mind blowing and such a demonstration of his talent.
He opened the show with I Will Never Let Go, which was actually used in the film Brokeback Mountain, and he had everyone singing along straight away. The atmosphere was incredible, and the way that he commanded the audience and held us in silence in certain sections, but singing along in others was magical.
He played a really great selection of tracks from over the years, and even gave us a preview of a upcoming single which was awesome to hear performed live before a release. His charisma and stage presence match his talent, and it really was a fantastic show.
I went to see The Mother Hips at the Sweetwater Music Hall recently and was pleasantly surprised by their relaxing sound and fun and fulfilling performance. The band from San Francisco cover a variety of rock sub genres from indie to alternative and even folk.
Their sound is pleasing and easy going, it's feel good music designed for all to enjoy. Don't let the rock genre put you off, their softer than you would think and make for a great night out. They are not too heavy and are very enjoyable. Their songs are radio friendly, easy for you to sing along to and easy for you to pick. You will be singing and dancing along with delight. The main man on vocals, Tim is cheeky, happy and very fun. He interacts with the audience and makes it an enjoyable experience.
The Mother Hips have been around since the 90s but in my opinion this is the time to see them. They performed my favourite songs of their "White Falcon Fuzz" and "Precious Opal" with character, they did not disappoint.
