As in most genres of music, and most things in life for that matter, women have to prove themselves to be far more capable than men ever have to be. This is disgusting as that means you can have a man getting as much if not more respect for half arsing an activity or in this case, an art form that a woman can run circles around him in. DJing and Electronic music in general is a boys club through and through. So of course, one of the best DJ’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing is Merrissa Campbell (otherwise known as Cooly G) who is not only an astounding DJ, but a fantastic singer, a semi-professional footballer, a label boss, and a mother of two. She’s an absolute badass and that shines through in her live shows, where she combines old school hip hop sounds with vocal samples, trap influences and minimal techno. Its music that’s just as palatable in the club as it is in your headphones and when one sees just how expertly she can command a crowd with her music alone, that’s something very impressive indeed. She should be an inspiration to many and a message that everyone should be at least as good as she is. Either way, she’s an unmissable DJ. Highly recommended.
