Lambchop are a band that can be described as anything other than ordinary. They defy the very conventions of what a band is with something as fundamental as their line up. They have never had a core selection of musicians, instead Lambchop has consisted of a number of musicians that have come and gone over their career with the only real constant being the band's creative epicentre, frontman Kurt Wagner. They began with a somewhat traditional country sound before merging this with genres including post-rock and soul.
Kurt Wagner has been described as a gifted lyricist and innovator of genre. A write up in American Songwriter Magazined described the frontman's lyrical style as "witty and deeply insightful." So far they have released eleven albums since their career began in 1994, and despite the absence of chart success from their discography, their live show is something of a cult phenomena. The sheer volume of work and devoted tour schedule won them praise from publication AllMusic who stated that the band are "arguably the most consistently brilliant and unique American group to emerge during the 1990s".
Their latest release was titled 'Mr.M' and came out in 2012 to more critical acclaim. It was placed on Pitchfork's 50 Best Albums of the Year list and a large worldwide tour took place in order to promote its release which featured the usual changing line up that the band are now known for.
Lambchop is considered to be in the alternative country genre. Previously known as Posterchild, this fantastic band gives an electrifying performance that audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy.
Lambchop brings a bit of rock and roll sound to the country genre and keeps the energy up at each venue. With over 30 years experience, Lambchop is unlike any other. The band takes stage, front and center, and allows the focus to be strictly on those who are performing. The energy is high and the lyrics are unique, occasionally quirky or witty, but always insightful. The audience is constantly cheering for the band and always wanting more.
In May of 2000, in Hamburg, Germany, Lambchop was able to open for Yo La Tengo and offered a sneak peek into their newest album, at that time. During the concert in London, Lambchop was able to instantly grab the audience and keep their full attention. Kurt Wagner and Tony Crow also had a bit of playful banter between the two of them, this allowed the audience to get an up close and personal look at the band and the passion that they have toward music. With the laid back country vibe mixed with a splash of rock and roll, Lambchop is an amazing band with fantastic sounds and uplifting music.
