Jim Avignon, the omnipresent Pop Art artist, is truly no stranger in Stuttgart. As Neoangin he has given several club gigs in the last 20 years - but strangely enough we all missed them somehow. But at the latest with his incredible mega painting action "24 Hour Arty People" in the Galerie Schacher, he has earned himself a place of honour in the heart of Stuttgart's cultural scene.
So it's all the more pleasing that he's already back in Stuttgart two years later. Again with "his" gallery owner Marko Schacher, this time with the walk-in, interactive space installation "Playdate". And there - one day after the vernissage - Hawelka's panel presentation takes place in the midst of this installation. For a very special reason: the cover was designed by none other than Jim Avignon. And when this is to be brought to the art-loving people as a picture disc, then the above-mentioned art scene naturally meets for the plenary assembly. (It would be deserved, but this gig isn't the content of this report, but rather we take it as a warmup and then go straight to a well-known building container near the Wagenhallen. That's where Neoangin will have a gig.)
Of course, the rudimentary stage is decorated with wall paintings by Avignon, in front of it a table with a loose collection of electronic devices. This is all the artist will need to put the 40 or so art lovers in a good mood and dance for the next two and a half (!) hours. With a cross-section of his opulent musical work. The already extremely danceable mixture of electropop, Lofi-Chansons and DIY-Technoschlager is - accompanied by a collection of cardboard masks and texts that are at least as funny and ironic as his pictures - simply a total work of art. (Never again will I be able to look at his pictures without having the Neoangin soundtrack in my ear) A total work of art with a huge fun factor. No shouting from the audience, to which the Avignon wouldn't have a quick-witted replica. No enriched schnapps that won't be tilted.
And when one of the highlights of the Dadapop-Mitsing hit "Die Petersburger Hängung" is reached, then we have not only had a great time, but also learned a technical term from the exhibition design en passant. No wonder that the gallery owner, the meanwhile joined Hawelkas and the art-conscious audience also get into the dance. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
