I was really excited to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra perform several months ago. I have always loved big band music and jazz, and Glenn Miller Orchestra is the best and brightest of them all. They incorporate so many incredible sounds and instruments, from alto saxophone to the awesome trumpets with the moving low tones of trombones. Each member truly adds to the musical experience. I think the best way to see them is live. There is nothing like hearing their really big hits, like “Moonlight Serenade” and “I’ve Got A Gal In Kalamazoo” in person, and hearing the rich sounds blended together. Seeing them perform “In The Mood” is just incredible as well. When at one of their concerts, you know you are truly surrounded by big band fans, young and old alike. This music almost seems like a lost art form, and for the Glenn Miller Orchestra to be keeping it alive after all these years is just amazing. The whole venue seems to sway and swing together, as though we are all in a lovely, moving dance routine. The Glenn Miller Orchestra really can get the whole audience on their feet. I can really envision how so many great musicians built upon the music of the Big Band era and the jazz component. This music is such a foundation for so many other genres, and obvious from their longevity that the Glenn Miller Orchestra is the basis for that.
