Described by that magazine as “the leader of the new sound of house”, it’s clear that Jones is widely considered a genuine pioneer in the dance world. He and the sound he’s developed have been earmarked as being at the vanguard of a movement that has aimed to break away from the shackles of the minimal techno sound that emerged from Detroit in the nineties and had come to dominate perceptions of the genre; instead, Jones’ take on techno is a very different beast, aiming for lush instrumentation and a greater focus on melody to make techno, a genre long known for its clinical approach, seem warmer and less calculated.
His project with his friend Lee Foss, Hot Natured, has exposed an entirely different side of Jones’ approach - one that has been proven to be chart-friendly, with their single ‘Benediction’ having made the top forty in his native UK. His festival resume, meanwhile, proves that he straddles both the underground dance world and the mainstream music sphere; he’s played at Tomorrowland and Glastonbury to a rapturous response, respectively the most revered events in those two fields, and he’s also achieved the seal of approval for any dance artist - frequent summer residencies in Ibiza.
Jamie Jones, head honcho of forward-thinking house music label, Hot Creations, is considered one of the top DJ's and producers around and after seeing him at Hideout festival earlier this year, I cant help but agree. Originally from Wales, Jamie has gone on to set up his own label, signing hot names in the industry along the way - Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping and Waff being my three favourites. He's also hosted Paradise parties all over the world, with a residency at Ibiza's DC10. But it was at Hideout where I saw the master in action, dropping house hits, mixing track after track effortlessly while the stage is full of his entourage. The easily fifty person strong encourage, mainly made up of young females wearing not much more than a bikini, one wearing just a sarong without a bra flapping a fan around to cool her down. Jones plays and produces house music, such as the 'Planet Spaceships' E.P which are perfect for dark and dingy clubs and sunny festival sets on Zrce beach in Croatia for Hideout festival. With the sun burning down, the hordes of house music fans throw their best shapes to Jamie who delivers one of the best sets of the festival.
Hot Since 82 has had the most whirlwind of years. 82 real name Daley Padley has gone from growing up in Leeds to playing sets at Coachella, back 2 backs with the legend, Pete Tong, and recently setting up his own record label, Knee Deep In Sound, named after his breakthrough 8 minute deep-house stomper 'Knee Deep In Louise'. Live, Padley is a permanent must-see for house music fans like myself. Playing in a dark tent at this year's Parklife festival as part of Heidi's Jackathon line-up, his deep-house and techno knowledge meant the whole two hour set was essential listening. Dropping tracks like , 'The End' and 'Shadows' from his debut album 'Little Black Book'. I say listening, because you could only just about see Padley through the green strobe lights wich amped up the rave atmosphere. His sets are always rammed and with an upcoming UK tour in October, it can't come soon enough!
