He started out in 1968 as a member of the musical group called Commodores, who were signed to Motown Records.
Richie went on to make his solo debut album in 1982 called "Lionel Richie" with the number one hit on it called "Truly". During his career he has sold over 100 million records worldwide, which made him one of the best selling artists of all time.
His debut album that launched his career made number three on the music charts and sold over four million copies. His second album "Can't Slow Down" sold twice that number and won two Grammy Awards.
Several more Top 10 hits followed for Richie, including "Hello" in 1984, which included his R&B roots as well as being a sentimental love song.
In 2004 Richie appeared on Canadian Idol and performed on the stage. In 2006 Richie hosted the TV show "An Audience with Lionel Richie" and two months later he performed his song "Hello" on the 49th Grammy Awards show.
In 2012 he released his tenth studio album called "Tuskegee", which included 13 of his hit songs performed as duets with some country starts such as Jason Aldean, Willie Nelson and Rascal Flatts. Inspired by Aretha Franklin’s ‘Greatest Hits’, Stone began her rise to stardom in 2001 at the age of 14; she won the Star for a Night talent show on BBC, before signing to S-Curve Records and releasing her multi-platinum and critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Soul Sessions’ in 2003. Miss Stone won the Capital FM accolade of London’s Favourite UK Album with the release of ‘Mind, Body & Soul’ a year later, which featured the hit single ‘You Had Me”, charting at number nine in the UK.
Between the years of 2007 and 2009, Stone released two more albums - ‘Introducing Joss Stone’ and ‘Colour Me Free!’ - before starting up her own record label - Stone’d Records - in 2010 and releasing the album ‘LP1’ on her own label. The vintage soul-artist then recorded an album with SuperHeavy, a supergroup consisting of Mick Jagger, Damien Marley and A.R. Rahman, before releasing ‘The Soul Sessions Vol 2’ in 2012.
Stone has utilized her musical talents for various campaigns, such as the Save the Music Foundation in 2004, where she performed along the likes of Jessica Simpson and Ashanti, and Band Aid 20, recording alongside Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin and U2 singer Bono. Stone also lead a campaign for Hear The World, which focused on raising an awareness for the victims of hearing loss, and was the first non-model to feature as the Flake girl for Cadbury Schweppes in 2008.
A worldwide superstar, Joss Stone has performed at reputable events such as the Live 8 Concert in 2005 and the Best of Blues Festival in 2014, highlighting the huge following she has maintained since her early teenage years.
Lionel Richie was born to entertain. He is a god on stage. Everything about him is so perfect and so beautiful. It's a wonder to behold. I love seeing him up there in his element doing his thing. He has such a wonderful voice that pretty much anyone would be able to place anywhere.
He is one of those American icons that stick with you for a very long time. If you disagree with that then you do not know music at all. I love being able to see him in concert and being able to hear his voice live and in person. The crowd loves him and everyone is so silent and so quietly reverent that it's amazing to witness. As soon as the crowd starts cheering everyone cheers and the sound is deafening. I love the roar of the crowd. Nothing thrills or excites me more than that.
Lionel Richie still has so much raw talent even after all these years. He really is an icon in this day and age, an inspiration to us all. He always looks so expertly dressed and so handsome up there on stage. He really has aged well and it shows in his music.
Great show, despite a lot of unknown songs (before the show, Joss said she was testing new things live before releasing her next album). Pop, soul, blues and, surprisingly, lots of reggae. Besides that, she played some of her hits, like "Right to Be Wrong", "Super Duper Love", "Jet Lag", "Fell In Love With a Boy", all of them praising the audience.
Lots of charisma, a great voice and, of course, her stunning looks made a perfect package.
Always puts on a great show with his review of new and incredible artists. Last night it was Thomas Lindsey with the pipes as well as the opening act. I always see Dave when he is in town because of his talent and the talent he brings with him. Lastly, he always plays at cool, small venues in town.
