Charlie Dore – Still Curious
with celebrated multi-instrumentalist Julian Littman
One of the UK’s most respected and quietly influential songwriters, Charlie Dore returns to the road with Still Curious, a tour that celebrates a lifetime of sharp observation, emotional intelligence and musical craft.
This Spring Charlie Dore returns to share ‘Songs For The Curious,’ her latest mix of music that refuses to fit categorisation.
A multi award-winning songwriter for dozens of different artists from Tina Turner, George Harrison and Celine Dion to Martha Wainwright, Ricky Ross and Paul Carrack, she loves writing but says “I still have the touring bug - in spades”.
Alongside Julian Littman, her multi-instrumental, actor-musician friend since drama school, the two create a unique atmosphere, instrument-swapping, story telling, fast-moving yet relaxed and full of edgy humour.
Charlie’s recent accolades include Female Vocalist of the Year (FATEA) and Best Lyrics (US Indie Acoustic). Her live shows continue to draw devoted listeners alongside new audiences discovering her for the first time.
“Earnest and witty, tender and cynical all at the same time” – RnR Magazine
“Reaffirms her place as one of our most intelligent and erudite singer-songwriters” – FATEA
“A voice like Kate McGarrigle meets Dory Previn. Wonderful” – Mike Harding
“Brave, poignant, entertaining, original” – The Guardian ★★★★
“Charlie Dore is one of this country's finest songwriters, a poet with the keenest of eyes” – Americana
Last night I was enough to be able to go to MAC Theatre's latest music promotion at The Blue Boar in Maldon, Essex, to see an outstandingly wonderful performance by Charlie Dore and her long time collaborator Julian Littman.
Charlie Dore is one of this country's musical genius gems. An intelligent, complete songwriter and performer who created a set list of complex, but captivating songs, engaging, quirky and emotionally touching in equal measures.
The fact that she has had songs recorded by George Harrison, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Paul Carrack, Ricky Ross, Jimmy Nail etc etc is testimony to her craft.
The musical relationship onstage between Charlie and the brilliant Julian ( Steeleye Span, Gerry Rafferty, Dexy's Midnight Runners,...We will Rock You, Evita etc etc) was effortlessly blended between instruments despite the complexity of the arrangements. Julian's contribution as collaborator is evident throughout.
Live music is a soul satisfying experience, and last night we felt privileged and enriched.
Thanks Charlie & Julian
