Suuns, who for me are without a doubt one of the most intriguing experimental guitar bands around today, are an absolute treat to see perform live. Hailing from Canada, the band’s wonderful guitar riffs and surging bass lines have a slightly industrial feel to them, and lead singer Ben Shemie‘s whispering vocals weave through their entire set, adding an ominous threatening ambiance to the whole experience. Song after song builds in intensity and engulfs the audience in layers of throbbing intensity, causing everyone to bob, sway and head bang along with the distorted looping layers the band carve out. Playing songs from their debut album, ‘Zeroes QC’, as well as material from their more recent release, ‘Images du Futur’, the band are a well rehearsed and professional outfit. It is a privilege to see them reconstruct songs like ‘Pie IX’ and ‘Armed For Peace’ live onstage, and their performance encourages you to appreciate each and every element of the pulsating vibes they produce. ‘2020’ was a particular highlight for me because the rise and fall of that guitar riff just sounds so undeniably awesome.
