Singing contests tend to go one of two ways, you either end up with a musician who becomes incredibly well know, or someone that you never hear of again. In the case of Shannon Noll, runner up of Australian Idol, he has achieved the former, selling over 1.3 million single and album tracks, and has achieved 17 platinum, and 3 gold certificate albums. Having followed his time in the show, I was super excited to see him perform live, and he put on a great show.
Noll opened with his famous track Lift, and had everyone singing along straight away. He played an extended version of the track, and got everyone clapping along whilst he was riffing and improvising around the melody. He’s an incredibly talented vocalist, and seeing him live in the flesh really demonstrated as well how wonderful he is at communicating his narrative in the songs, and engaging with the audience. He was extremely gracious and grateful for the opportunity, and for everyone there to see him perform, so that made the evening even more special! At the end of the show he even stayed behind to sing autographs and have photos.
