Sarah Blasko has a voice that immediately draws you into her performances and she has soothing vocals that relax you instantly. Her lyrics tell a complex story, but at the same time, when she sings it seems as if she is having a conversation with the audience about an experience she is having rather than singing a song. The background music is also very soothing and almost nostalgic in a way.
The way in which the band plays as she sings allows for the audience to draw themselves into the story and visualize what she is saying in their own unique way. As she sings I am able to see images of instances that are similar in my own life and at the same time it is a very enjoyable and comforting experience.
From the start you get the sense that this particular venue where she sings "We Won't Run" isn't like your typical venue in that it almost has the appearance of a small jazz stage in the center of an even smaller coffee shop or poetry corner. You continue to get this feeling to because the audience rather than cheer loudly slowly claps in appreciation as she finishes her song. You get the feeling as she performs that she is almost singing for herself and the audience at the same time. She's dressed in a way that makes it seem as if she simply walked off the street and decided to sing about something that was on her mind at the time.
This is what makes me want to see her perform live because it reminds me of the things we think and want to say, but are not able to say out of fear. She performs in a way in which she projects a dreamlike state in which people are able to act out how they feel without fear or repercussions.
