The band became well known in the music industry when it posted their version of the song "Je Veux Te Voir" on Myspace in 2005, it went on to reach the top five in France.
Following the success of their cover song they went to work on their debut album called "Pop Up", which was released in 2007. In 2011 they released their second album called "Safari Disco Club".
They went on tour for three years in support of "Pop Up" after gaining a lot of recognition in foreign/ non-french speaking countries for their music as well.
GrandMarnier and Tepr produce the music, alongside Budet who writes all the lyrics. The album "Pop Up" is an electropop style genre with some 1980s influences.
In 2014 they announced their third studio album called "Complètement fou", the album was produced by Dr. Luke who discovered the group from hearing their remix of Katy Perry's song "Hot n Cold".
Due to the groups popularity on their "Pop Up" album, they were asked to try recording it in English, but they insisted they would not feel right singing in a language they did not understand, so declined to do so.
The members say they each have different influences to their music style to make them unique. Grandmarnier is influenced by rock music like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, while Tepr liked rap and some techno music. Budet has said artists such as Snoop Dogg and Madonna are influences for her musical style.
One of the best shows i've attended over the last decade ! But could it be different with those 2 ?? I'll have to see them again and again and again :-p
Ok first things first, I'm not French. I have no real understanding of the French language, and the closest I've been to France was at a bistro downtown for lunch. But you don't need to understand French to understand how amazing Yelle is live.
If you've heard her sing from watching Youtube or whatever, don't even compare - it's way better live. Her music just makes you dance... there's no other way to explain it. Yelle herself has some crazy sick moves, and she wears totally hot outfits too. Once she starts dancing, it's hard to resist.
I went with some friends, and once Safari Disco Club started playing, I couldn't stop myself from shaking my butt around and getting down to the beats. Yelle's music is nearly perfect for dancing to at a club. The entire crowd starts to dance anyways, so you won't feel awkward or anything. The crowd was mostly younger people, like maybe 20 years olds. Oh, and I forgot to mention almost, but the drummer, I don't know his name, but he's totally awesome.
When he asks if you want to hear an encore, make sure you yell yes at him, because the encore is amazing. My favorite performances were Ce Jeu, Safari Disco Club, and Je Veux Te Voir.
