As a bit of an indie pop fan I came across The Primitives 1988 international hit single ‘Crash’ a while ago when searching for new bands. Despite this so called ‘one hit wonder’ the rest of the bands catalogue is full of great indie pop and eighties pop rock songs. I was really excited to see vocalist Tracy Tracy live because her style and sass makes her one of my female role models. She’s up there with Dolores O’Riordan from The Cranberries, Shirley Manson of Garbage and Fiona Apple. The Primitives put on a great show live. There was a good mixed crowd including some people who were clearly fans from the eighties but also some younger fans like myself. Tracy Tracy had her signature pixie cut hair, tight black outfit and on stage sway. Songs like ‘Rattle My Cage’, ‘You Are The Way’, ‘Thru The Flowers’, ‘Way Behind Me’ and of course ‘Crash’ were probably the crowd favourites. The pulsing drum beats and electric guitar riffs along with Tracy’s gentle poppy vocals were fab to hear live, and really got the audience enjoying themselves. After eighteen years on hiatus I was so happy to see The Primitives live as I had never thought that I would. They definitely can still put on a good show.
