The goth rock band Unheilig, or in English unholy, have over the years produced some very well renowned music, with various influences from pop music, as well as electronic instruments. Although the line up of the band has altered a little over the last 15 years, their sound is still fresh and exciting, bringing originality to the music industry. The band have been nominated for countless awards over the years, and opened their set with the title track from Grobe Freiheit, which won album of the year 2010 at the ECHO awards. Of course it’s a super well known song, so when Henning Verlage stood behind his keyboard and was gesturing for everyone to clap and sing along, we all willingly obliged in the audience.
Part of seeing a band live is about their performance and presence on stage, and Unheilig have mastered this aspect of their show. Bernd Graf, the lead vocalist is a ball of electrical energy, and he didn’t stop dancing or running around the stage for the entire show. They were all great at shouting out to us in the crowd, seeing if we were having fun, and they even took requests for songs! They ended the set with Als Aars Das Erste Mal, and everyone went crazy singing along to their new single. They all gave a fantastic performance, and I’d definitely see them live if you get a chance.
