With no idea of who Arkona were, to my surprise they gave a decent performance, not a bad word can be said from me!
Such a rare and almost unheard of combination when it comes to that of the genre this group belongs to; Folk Metal. Yes you read correctly, folk metal and surprisingly it's one of the most pleasant sounds I have heard. The genre has you in two minds, one mind is anger and excitement while the other is to dance spontaneously and just relax.
The band from Moscow Russia, sing in this very language but even if you can not understand exactly what it is they are saying, that is not a problem at all. The chords, drum patterns and melodies of their songs are good enough that you will still find a way to enjoy the sounds they are pushing out, especially in their song 'Yarillo' which combines the folk singing and the singing of metal.
When they performed their song 'Rus!' the audience went berserk, first starting off rocking their heads back and forth, the audience then began jumping around and head banging it was one of the best things anybody could ever see as the power of the electric guitar rippled through the room!
Arkona are amazing live!
A mixture of old and new songs with the music sounding brilliant, they did an excellent job performing their best tracks with the classics of `Parasite God' and an enqure of `Decadent and Desperate' with new hits from the latest album `The Great Deceiver' such as `Demons Are Back', I really enjoyed there performance and was even greeted by the Vocalist himself who was kind enough to have a picture taken with me!!
Fantastic gig. 10/10.
Great atmospheric show, super impressive vocals especially. Super cool stage design! Sadly very low audience turnup, but they still delivered like pros. Could have been longer (just below 60 minutes).
