Although Omaha, Nebraska doesn’t necessarily seem like it would be the place that would spawn a highly energetic post-punk revival band that creates sounds reminiscent of industrial electronic music, The Faint proves this misconception to be wrong. The Faint is known for getting the most dirty and gritty electronic sounds that will make your adrenaline rush with its intensity and will make you want to dance to its jagged sounded dance beats. The band’s bass playing is very prominent throughout the music, driving the rhythm behind the music as well as playing some funky melodies to get the audience jiving. Although the band does use some electronic drums in their music to get a more rigid, industrial sound, they also use an acoustic drum kit, which gets warmer tones and packs more of a punch. The lead singer, Todd Fink, has a very interesting approach to his singing style. He sings in a staccato, choppy way creating a rhythmic pattern that nicely blends in with the rest of the sound, while the harsh synthesizers are used for more of the melody making.
The Faint always put on an epic performance. Bright, jarring lights flash across the stage accompanied by light screens displayed in the back. All of The Faint’s members are highly engaged in their music, rocking back and forth on stage while playing their instruments. Todd Fink is like a fireball, running all over the stage and shoving the microphone in the audience’s direction to sing back lyrics from the song, “Paranoiattack”.
The Faint has gained a cult following after the many years of energetic live performances and their brilliance in songwriting. They have a close tie to Saddle Creek Records, which is notorious for releasing Bright Eyes’ albums, and Conor Oberst was once a former member of The Faint, and still will collaborate with the band every once in a while. The Faint’s live performances ring close to the intensity of a Nine Inch Nails concert, and to see them perform their high energy music live is an opportunity that should not be missed.
The show was spectacular as usual. The Faint never fails to put on a good show. High energy from start to finish, and they ended with a nice and long encore. I dont thinkn I stopped moving the entire show. Whenever this band comes to town or near me, I always show up. Love these guys!
Sub for the opening act was a bust... some rando touring with them who does remix electronica...wtf.
The Faint were okay - seemed to be some tech problems but a fun show overall.
