The talented instrumentalists that form Red Snapper put on an absolutely breathtaking show. As well as being lucky enough to see Ali Friend on the double bass, David Ayers on the guitar, and Richard Thair on the drums, they also had guest vocalists and keyboard players to appear onstage with them throughout the set. They opened the show as a trio, and played their debut single, Image of You, which had everyone in the audience cheering and putting their arms in the air.
To listen to studio recordings of Red Snapper is incredible, but to witness them live is something else. There were so many sections from their albums that they extended and improvised over, creating an almost entirely original sound that was incredible to watch unfold live. Their acid jazz style is a great fusion between classical music, as well as jazz and even elements of pop, keeping their sound fresh and original.
They played through their newest album Hyena, with some improvised vocals over the top, which was great to hear, as it’s not present on the recording, and was really exciting. The band and guests interacted really well with each other, and seemed like they’d been working together for years, when in fact had only had a few rehearsals. Red Snapper are wonderful live, and I really recommend checking them out, what ever genre of music you’re interested in.
A very enjoyable performance in a small and intimate venue. I haven't seen Red Snapper live for over a decade and was pleased to see that they still produce good music. The only disappointment was that they didn't play much of their older stuff. It seemed that the rest of the audience agreed with me as the audience really came to life when they played their last two songs which were recognisable as being from their earlier albums. Having said that, while their newer tunes are more jazzy, it was a thoroughly enjoyable set.
It was without doubt one of the best concerts in years. Majority of the people had during and afterwards a grin from ear to ear.
However there seemed from time to time some tension between the sax guy and the other band members, but the music brought the listeners to a different world nonetheless.
RS played a lot of the songs from their early days, and I can't believe RS exists 21 years.
It was a great concert.Really enjoyrd the atmosphere. And the band delivered a high quality performance. Thanks to them and to the organisers.Would defenitely go again. Also it was very comfy at the London Underground Village. No seats.Space for few hundred people. And the feeling was awesome when it was full of people.
Great gig as always. Red Snapper will ne never get old. Although the venue and the crowd were not really helping they managed to get everyone dancing in this beautiful trippy vibe of theirs. Beautiful people playing real music. Respect.
Awesome, but after seeing them perform blimey for the 3rd time I'm ready for something else.
sound system was good, not too loud with earplugs in.
The crowd was happy, the support act was something terrible.
Red Snapper are an incredible band, amazing music and night. Love the drumming especially, the new album is good and the old albums/songs just inspiring. thank you red snapper for being amazing!
