The show started before Markus Krunegard was even on stage with everyone chanting ‘Markus, Markus, Markus’. The Swedish musician ran on the stage with an insane amount of energy and jumped up and down clapping whilst his band played the introduction to Hollywood Hills. His indie pop music, although predominantly in Swedish is incredibly catchy, and had everyone singing along, regardless of languages.
The show was predominantly to promote the new album Rastlost Blod, which was absolutely incredible to hear live as one of the first audiences. I was also pleased to see that he played several older tracks from Markusevangeliet, and Lev Som En Gris, Do Som En Hund, as well as some of his hit singles. He has so much great material that I was worried it wouldn’t fit into the set, but he played almost everything I was looking forward to hearing.
As well as being an incredible singer with a phenomenal range, he’s a great performer, jamming along with the band and rocking out on his guitar to the tracks, showing that he’s a wonderfully multi-talented musician, and not just a vocalist. He had everyone cheering for him when he played a guitar solo, something we weren’t expecting, and really won everyone over with his performance.
